Guidelines for Student Need Fund

Overview:
Outside of scholarship funds, we are pleased to offer funds earmarked for students in need. At times, students experience emergency situations for which they need immediate, short-term financial assistance. This fund is intended to help meet those needs. A financial need is defined as an unforeseen expense that, if not resolved quickly, could lead to the student’s departure from Morgan State University and loss of momentum toward commencement.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be Morgan State University students. The student must verify enrollment status via unofficial transcript and signed verification form.

Applicants must be residents of the state of Georgia.

Applications will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Potential financial needs include but are not limited to:

Travel (long distance, to and from school).
-
Transportation (local, to and from school).
-
Shelter (rent or temporary housing).
-
Utilities (electric, gas, etc.).
-
Outstanding student account balances that prevent registration or graduation ($1000 or less).

Healthcare emergencies.

Other incidentals as determined by the committee.

Application Process:

The applicant completes the online application. Documentation of the financial need must be submitted along with the application.

Once the application is submitted, the applicant receives a confirmation.

The Chapter President brings the application to the board for consideration.

Within 5 business days of receipt of a completed application, a decision is made and the applicant is notified of the decision.
Disbursement of Funds:
Payment method will be contingent on the agreement by the applicant and the chapter. Available funding may vary pending on the status of the Student Need budget.
Prior to fund disbursement, the applicant must sign a verification form. This form also includes a certification that the funds will be used for the intended purpose.
